We were inspired to set up this virtual cache by a similar one we did in Florida. That one was in turn inspired by Desert Viking's Center of Population Project Benchmarks locationless cache.

The National Geodetic Survey, in cooperation with individual state professional surveying associations, the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM), the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS), and the American Association for Geodetic Surveying (AAGS), encouraged U.S. states to set a commemorative geodetic control monument at or near the location of each state's population center as determined by the U.S. Census Bureau for the year 2000. The mark is supposed to be at least 8 inches in diameter, be located near the center of population coordinates of each state in a park or public right of way where it is easily accessible. Besides the benchmark, there is supposed to be a large sign describing what the benchmark represents.

To clam this cache, you must visit Maryland's center of population marker at the posted coordinates. While there you must take two pictures that you post with your Found It! log:
1. a picture of the disc with your GPS
2. a picture of you standing at the bronze plaque explaining the disc.
Please get a picture of you, as in the example here, not just your arm.

We wish you could use this virtual as an opportunity to claim Desert Viking's LC, but we already used this Maryland marker for that cache. Hope you enjoy your visit to this pretty little park anyway.
