Here’s one we know can be claimed around the world, because we’ve seen Kugel Balls in England, New Zealand, and several places in the United States. In case you are not sure what a kugel ball is… ..it is a large stone sphere (usually granite), that is supported in a circular opening in a fountain so that the water being forced up from below lifts the ball off the base and lets the ball rotate freely. In order for this to work, both the ball and the opening it sits in must be very precisely shaped.

Among many other locations, kugel balls can be found in:

New Zealand.........................................................................England

Texas..................................................................Ohio

(Notice the cute pictures of the youngest SoccerFanatic at various ages in the pictures above.)

Lansdale, Pennsylvania has one of the most famous kugel balls. It weighs 2,200 pounds. One reason this one is famous is that it has actually been stolen (it was recovered and put back in operation).

To claim this cache:
1. Find a kugel ball.
2. Get a picture of yourself (holding your GPS) with the kugel ball. We want to see all of you, not just your hand and arm in the picture.
3. Get a second picture of yourself turning the kugel ball (you can do it all in one picture is you can manage it).
4. Tell us where you found this kugel ball, why you were there (caching trip, vacation, etc.), and any info on the ball you can find (size, weight, age, etc.)

Extra imaginary brownie points will be awarded for anyone who posts a video of their kugel ball in motion, and extra special imaginary points if you are the one turning the ball in the video.

As usual, only one claim for each kugel ball is allowed, and each cacher can only claim this cache once. Naturally, the kugel ball you find must be a full-size one - no miniatures allowed. Please note this rule. I've been getting logs for miniatures. Your claim must be for a full-sized kugel ball, let's say a minimum of 3 feet / 1 meter in diameter.

As of 1/1/08, Kugel Balls have been claimed in:
Lansdale, PA
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Dallas, Texas
Houston, Texas
Amarillo, Texas
Tulsa, Oklahoma
Boulder, Colorado
Seattle, Washington
Niagara falls, New York
Holzkirchen, Germany
Remember, each ball can be claimed only once!
