A standard multicache, gathering clues around the village followed by a walk across the fields to the final cache.
The cache is located in Eardisland, a "picture postcard" village on the Black and White Trail which starts in nearby Leominster. The Black and White Trail is a tour round some of the prettiest villages in Herefordshire. This includes Eardisland along with the neighbouring villages of Weobley, Dilwyn and Pembridge. You can get leaflets about the "trail" from the Tourist information centre in Leominster.
Also nearby is Dunkerton's Cider Mill where you can sample cider made from local apples and a local [url]http://www.mousetrapcheese.co.uk/]Cheesemaking outfit at Monkland.
The cache itslef is a small clear plastic lock-lock box which can only take a few small swaps or TB's.
The published coordinates are in a free, public car park adjacent to The Cross Inn which happens to serve very good beer and food. They welcome dogs by the way!
I've designed the cache to take you for a short stroll around the centre of the village so take your time and enjoy the sites. Once you've gathered all the clues the final cache is about half a mile away across a meadow and a couple of fields. At the cache site itself there is a small stream with some safe paddling as well as an attractive weir which you should be careful of. The route takes you over several stiles, most of which are dog friendly but there's one where you may have to help your four legged friend over! It shouldn't take more than half to three quarters of an hour and when you get back you can always relax in The Cross Inn or the White Swan just down the road.
OK, on with the trail. Having parked your car the first coordinates at 52°13.363'N, 2°51.075'W will place you outside a vintage AA box. Have a peek inside for interest but the information you're looking for is the big number on the side of the box. This is ABC
Waypoint 2 - The Dovecote at 52°13.387'N, 2°51.069'W This is open most days and is free to enter. It's well worth having a look inside. However you are looking for the plaque on the wall outside which commemorates Eardisland winning the Village Pride award in DEFG
Waypoint 3 - The Bridge at 52°13.409'N, 2°51.036'W There are some lovely views from this bridge (watch for traffic though!). You are looking for the year it was erected HJKL and widened MNPQ
Waypoint 4 - Houses at 52°13.334'N, 2°51.078'W Standing here you can see a row of houses with unusual names, all beginning with "N". How many houses are there? R
Waypoint 5 - The plaque on the church wall at 52°13.314'N, 2°50.985'W Much of the plaque is indistinct with age but there is a date 19th May STUV
Well, that's the lot. using the information gained, substitute the letters for numers in the usual way to get the final location using the formula :
52°13.(P)(A)(E)'N, 2°51.(R+B)(U)(G)'W
Yes, I know not all the numbers were used but you were there anyway! Now you have the final location make your way back to the main road and find the start of the footpath at 52°13.315'N, 2°51.184'W. One final piece of information, when you are very close to the cache be sure to go through the blue gate. Have fun!
