Mourning in Maine
From Belfast to Durham I rode one wet morn,
To visit the grave of a Southern Man born,
Upon my return I was sufficient' inspired,
To leave a cache of my own; I conspired,
And found this appropriate spot in the rain,
To place my northernmost cache here in Maine.
Fifty-six from one hundred gives final degrees,
Subtract twenty from that for the minutes with ease,
One tenth plus three thousandths to that for good measure,
Gives the latitude line of this cache for your pleasure.
For longitude start with a six, make a copy,
Then turn it and place it next door - don't be sloppy,
The minutes begin with one seven but add,
Five over ten-to-the-third, and be glad,
That you finally made it without too much math,
It now will be easy to find the right path.
Just enter the gates(not the pearly ones, I hope!)
And look to the left at the wall down the slope.
On top of the wall is a rock out of place,
That came from a now long forgotten face,
But beneath this erratic white block of stone,
Is the treasure you seek, and not an old bone!
From Belfast to Durham I rode one cold morn,
To visit the grave of a Southern Man born,
Upon my return I was sufficient' inspired,
To leave a cache of my own; I conspired,
And found this appropriate spot in the rain,
To place my northernmost cache in Ol' Maine!
