What is World Community Grid? (From the WCG website)
World Community Grid's mission is to create the world's largest public computing grid to tackle projects that benefit humanity.

Our work has developed the technical infrastructure that serves as the grid's foundation for scientific research. Our success depends upon individuals collectively contributing their unused computer time to change the world for the better.

World Community Grid is making technology available only to public and not-for-profit organizations to use in humanitarian research that might otherwise not be completed due to the high cost of the computer infrastructure required in the absence of a public grid. As part of our commitment to advancing human welfare, all results will be in the public domain and made public to the global research community.

How Grid Technology Works
Making a difference has never been easier! Grid technology is simple and safe to use. To start, you register, then download and install a small program or "agent" onto your computer.

When idle, your computer will request data on a specific project from World Community Grid's server. It will then perform computations on this data, send the results back to the server, and ask the server for a new piece of work. Each computation that your computer performs provides scientists with critical information that accelerates the pace of research!

Ok, there's already a locationless cache for this... why another one?
The purpose of this Locationless is to keep it going. And maybe save a life. Maybe YOUR computer will be the one that cracks the code resulting in finding the Cure for AIDS (or cancer, or muscular distrophy, or the common cold, etc.)! Oh, and get a few locationless points for doing it.

AngryKid posted the original World Community Grid Locationless a few years ago, requiring a paltry 25 results returned before logging. This has resulted in a total of 58 people (as of this posting) out of the thousands of TC participants signing up and attempting to log it. Several made it to 25 returns, then maybe a little more, and stopped participating. Only a few hardy souls (and their computers) have kept on participating.

Requirements to log:
1. Log WCG (aka How to Fold a Protein). Follow the link for requirements. From a clean start, this should take at most 6-8 weeks for any computer. I made it in 2 weeks running two mid-range computers 24/7.
2. Continue participating for an extended period. Accumulate at least two of the following three stats:
- 120 days (~4 months) total run time
- 100,000 points
- 500 results returned
3. Keep going! There may be a WCG III locationless in the future, plus you get to keep contributing to the health of humankind. All results from WCG calculations are in the public domain.
