Glossary
From TCki
- Bison Tube
- a small metal tube, sometimes used for waterproof pill storage, frequently used to hide a micro sized cache. Dimensions are usually under 1/2" diameter, under 2" length. Placing paper back inside the CAP generally keeps the contents from being chewed up in the threads.
- Certified Terracacher
- One who has found at least 9 TerraCaches, and placed at least 3 Terracaches (with an MCE of at least 3.5 and at least one finder each). Noted by a distinctively cool green/gold badge next to the users' avatar.
- Charter Member
- One who became a premium member during the first year premium memberships were offered (2005). ;Confirmation Code (CC) : An alphanumeric 'code' placed in some caches by the owner to serve as a confirmation that you found it and discourage cheating. Also useful in caches too small to hold a log book of any kind. Make a note of the code when you find the cache, and enter it in the appropriate text box when you log your find on the website to get credit. See also First Finder's Code.
- Decon Kit
- Small Plastic container, originally holding a military Decontamination Kit. Roughly the size of a large Band-Aid box, with a watertight seal. Frequently used in locations that can't support an ammo box.
- First Finder's Code (FF)
- An alphanumeric 'code' placed in some caches by the owner to serve as a confirmation that you were the first to find it, even if you're not the first to log it online. (Also referred to as FTF for First To Find.)
- GCRTNO
- An acronym coined in the early days of the TC forums, refers to both the original acronym Grajek Can't Remember The Name Of, in reference to Geocaching.com in a tongue-firmly-in-cheek manner; and also to the physical GC cache placed by WAAS-UP GCRTN0, and the Locationless TC by Shunra GCRTN0. Still seen in random forum posts, usually by members fairly long in the tooth.. :)
- LTPS
- Locationless TerraCaching Point System ~ The scoring system used for Locationless Caches found on Terracaching. These points are used for a separate leaderboard from the physical Terracache scores.
- MCE
- Measure of Cache Excellence ~ An attempt to mathematically quantify how much the community likes a particular cache. See also Tutorial Chapter 3.
- Premium Member
- One who has extra features available to them on the site, either due to purchasing a premium membership, or earning a free premium membership.
- Revoke
- Revoking a sponsoree is a serious move as it removes their status as a fully sponsored user and provides them with only limited access to the site. A person who has their sponsorship revoked, but has sponsorees of their own, those sponsorees are automatically picked up by the AdoptionAgency and have two weeks to find a fully sponsored member to sponsor them. This action is much more severe than "withdraw"-ing from a sponsoree.
- Sponsor
- One who vouches for the suitability of another member for ongoing inclusion in this site, reviews and approves their caches, and answers questions.
- Sponsoree
- A term used to reference someone sponsored by another member. i.e. Joe doesn't have many sponsorees, but they're all very active players.
- TCki
- A section of the TerraCaching website that allows sponsored members to make updates and changes, resulting in a collaborative knowledge base of useful information for all members to learn from. Hint: You're reading it now.
- TPS
- TerraCaching Point System ~ A system of scoring caches based on perceived difficulty. Computed by comparing the rate of finders a cache gets over time to that of other caches in the area. See also Tutorial Chapter 3.
- UCR
- User Contribution Rating ~ A score given each user, based predominately on the MCEs of the caches they own. See also Tutorial Chapter 3.
- Withdraw
- Withdrawing your sponsorship is the less severe form of removing your desire to sponsor someone. They are automatically picked up by the AdoptionAgency and continue to have full access to the site for two weeks. They must find a new sponsor within that time or risk being dropped to non-member status with little access to the site.
